Winner of the Miss Telegenic Award at Star Search 2007, Ya Hui was one of the hot favourites of the TV talent scouting contest, which was telecast live throughout its season, making it one of the most challenging contests in local TV history.
After the grand finals, Yai Hui was chosen as the face for the TVC of shampoo brand Silkpro. She was offered a contract with MediaCorp and landed herself a prominent role as Tao Wen Zhu in the long form drama, Love Blossoms, acting alongside Ivy Lee and Zheng Ge Ping, who were the winners for Best Actress and Best Actor at the Star Awards. In 2009, she joins Chen Li Ping, her mentor for Star Awards, in the popular drama serial Reunion Dinner as mother and daughter. Her outstanding performance in the drama serials earned her nominations for the Newcomer Award of the Year in The New Paper Flame Awards 2008 and the Best Newcomer Award for Star Awards 2008.
Ya Hui clearly demonstrated her passion for the performing arts since young. She joined the Dance Team as her Co-Curricular Activities since Primary school, all the way to Junior College. She was also involved in many volunteer work organized by her schools. One of the major projects was the Overseas Community Involvement Programme in Yunnan, China, in which she displayed not only a heart for service, but also the fortitude to undergo physical discomfort and manual labor.
